Sides named 2021 Kansas Governor's Scholar
Phillipsburg senior Ty Sides was named a 2021 Kansas Governor's Scholar recipient.
The Governor's Scholar Program has recognized the achievements of student for the last 38 years. The Governor's Scholar is awarded to the top one percent of the graduating class.
According to KSDE, the Governor’s Scholars program is coordinated for the Governor and thePublic Education Task Force. The funding is from donations in the private sector of businesses in Kansas.
Confidence in the Kansas Public Education Task force was formed 30 years ago to strengthen confidence in education throughout the state. The following organizations are members of the Task Force: American Association of University Women, Kansas State Board of Education, Kansas Association of School Boards, Kansas Congress of Parents and Teachers, Kansas State Department of Education, Kansas-National Education Association, Kansas School Public Relations Association, Kansas State High School Activities Association, Kansas League of Women Voters, and United School Administrators of Kansas.
In previous years, a ceremony was held to honor the selections from across the state; however, due to COVID-19 concerns, the ceremony will be produced by the Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force in an on-demand virtual event in early May.
Sides, the son of Keith and Robin Sides, plans to attend Kansas State University in the fall and major in Business.
