PJHS Girls 7th Grade Team finished third at Norton

The junior high track season began as the Phillipsburg teams headed to Norton on Friday, April 8th. Bring home a first place team finish was the Phillipsburg 8th grade boys with a team score of 146 points. Colby was second with 120.5 points. Leading the way for PJHS was Tanner Horinek who placed 1st in the triple jump (38-9.5), 1st in the 100m hurdles (14.54), 1st in the 100m (12.19), and 1st in the 200m (24.88). EJ Hall also scored big for the Panthers as he placed 1st in the long jump (17-4.75), second in the triple jump (33-10), and second in the 400m (1:01.01). Blake Buresh placed 1st in the javelin (122-11), third in the 400 (1:02.75). Buresh along with Hall, Kaid Schwenn, and Colin Springer combined to place 1st in the 4X100m relay. Alek Miller placed 2nd in the 3200m (12:39.33). Cleveland Corman placed 3rd in the high jump (4-8) and third in the 800m (2:41.09). Two top three finishes for the Panthers include the 4X200m relay team of Springer, Schwenn, Gavin Driggs, and Rallen Minkler, who placed third. The 4x400m relay team (Springer, Schwenn, Driggs, and Corman) also took third.

The 7th grade Panther boys placed 5th with 52 points. Those who finished in the top three for that team include Mason Laurin who placed 2nd in the 200m hurdles (39.26), Zane Shields who placed 3rd in the discus (82-05), Jesse Dettmer who placed 3rd in the 3200m (15:17.79), and Brady Russom who placed 3rd in the 1600m (6:27.12).

The 8th grade PJHS girls team placed 6th with 34 points. Their top finisher was Chloe Vanderveen who placed 1st in the 400m (1:07.73), 1st in the 800m (2:54.66), and 2nd in the 100m (14.4).

The 7th grade PJHS girls team placed 3rd with 85 points. Those who finished in the top three include Ryleigh Seems who placed 1st in the high jump (4-05) and 3rd in the shot put (29-08.5); Kalinda Meili who placed 1st in the javelin (67-04); Azariah Christy who placed 2nd in the discus (60-09); Jazlynn Jerby who placed second in the 3200m (17:25.37); and Kihyna Steelsmith who placed 3rd in the 3200m (18:20.02). The 4x100m relay team of Meilie, Seems, Chloe Jacobs, and Kamrie Chestnut placed 2nd (1:01.6). The 4x200m relay team of Jacobs, Miley Moffatt, Christy, and Valorie Solida placed third (2:19.20).

The Jr. high teams will be back in action on Thursday, April 14th when they host a meet in Phillipsburg.
