Lady Panthers start 2023 with two wins
On Tuesday, Jan 3, the Lady Panthers hosted Beloit in the first game of 2023. Beloit came into the matchup with a record of 2-4 on the season.
In first quarter action, the Panthers jumped out to a 10-point lead, outscoring the Trojans 17-7. The Panthers extended that lead going into halftime 38-13.
In the second half, the Panthers went to their bench most of the half and the bench came up big. The Panthers outscore Beloit 39-14 in the second half to secure the win 77-27.
All Panthers who checked into the game contributed to the scoring. Leading the scoring for the Panthers was senior Taryn Sides with 20 followed by senior Heather Schemper and junior Kayla Jacobs each with 13.
Sides also led the team in rebounds with eight followed by Jacobs with six. Sides led in assists with seven and steals with seven.
The Panthers were back in action on Friday, Jan. 6 when they traveled to Russell for a league matchup. Once again, the Panthers had a strong start to the game, putting up 29 points in the first quarter and holding Russell to three. The Panthers continued their quick attack method in the second quarter putting up 17 while holding the Broncos to 9.
In the second half, the Panthers again went to their bench for much of the half. The Panthers dominated the third quarter 21-9 and held their own in the fourth quarter with balanced scoring of seven a piece.
The Panthers secured the 74-28 win to move their record to 8-0.
Leading the way for the Panthers was Schemper with 25, followed by Sides with 23. Senior Trinitti Gross led the way on the boards with six, while sophomore Karissa Keeten led the team in assists with seven. Keeten and Sides led the way in steals with five each.
The Lady Panthers will host Trego in a league game on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
