Panthers pick up tough league win against Trego

In a matchup with league tournament seeding implications, the Panthers played host to the Trego Eagles on Tuesday, Jan. 10. With a win, the Panthers would move into the fourth seed for the MCL Tournament and host a first-round game. With a dominating performance by junior Rhett Shelton, the Panthers did just that, defeating Trego 58-53.

Though the Panthers trailed the Eagles 29-31 at the end of the first half, a big third-quarter boost propelled the Panthers to a 49-40 lead at the end of three. Though being outscored 9-13 in the fourth, the third-quarter run allowed the Panthers to secure the win.

Leading the Panthers in scoring was Shelton with 27, a career high. Junior Rad Rodriguez led the team in rebounds with nine followed by sophomore Caden Seems with six. Rodriguez also led the team in assist with seven, while senior Jesse Blackburn led the team in steals with seven.

With the win, the Panthers secured the four seed in the league tournament which will begin Monday, Jan. 16. The Panthers will host a first-round game.

Before the tournament begins, the Panthers will be in action on Friday, Jan. 13 when they travel to Norton.
