Phillipsburg High School girls’ track team captures league title and breaks records
At the Mid-Continent League track meet held at Phillipsburg on Friday, May 12, the Phillipsburg High School girls’ team captured the league title and saw several MCL and school records fall.
Senior Heather Schemper broke both the school record and the MCL meet record in the longjump when she jumped 18’1”. Schemper had not jumped since middle school and the league meet was her first attempt at the long jump in a meet this season. Schemper won the event.
Schemper also broke her own 400-meter school record with a time of 57.52, which was also a new MCL meet record. Schemper won the race.
Junior Caydence Corman also broke the school record in the pole vault when she vaulted 9’3” to take first.

200M: Schemper 1st, senior Taryn Sides 2nd, senior Trinitti Gross 7th
400M: Schemper 1st, Sides 2nd, Gross 4th
800M: VanDerVeen 5th
300M Hurdles: sophomore Kayla Jacobs 4th
1600M Run: freshman Gabby Poels 9th
4x100M Relay: VanDerVeen, Gross, Jacobs, Sides 2nd
4x400M Relay: Jacobs, Gross, Sides, Schemper 1st
Pole Vault: Corman 1st
Long Jump: Schemper 1st, Caydence Corman 9th
Shot Put: senior Austin Dierking 1st, senior Kaelyn Means 5th
Discus: Means 1st, Dierking 3rd, sophomore Brynn Billings 5th
Javelin: Karissa Keeten 10th
The boys’ track team finished the meet in seventh place with 35.5 points. Hoxie won the meet with 158 points.
