Phillipsburg High School Scholar's Bowl finishes fifth at state

The Phillipsburg Scholars Bowl team traveled to Wichita on Saturday, Feb. 10 for the State 3A competition hosted by Wichita Collegiate.

After the opening ceremony, the twelve team competition began with pool play. Phillipsburg faced Hesston, Girard, Sabetha, Nemaha Central and SE of Saline.

At the end of pool play, the team ended with a 2-3 record, tied for third with Hesston. In head-to-head competition, Phillipsburg beat Hesston which allowed them to advance to the finals.

The six teams advancing to the finals included Caney Valley, Wichita Collegiate, LaCygne-Prairie View, SE of Saline, Nemaha Central and Phillipsburg. Competition was a tad tougher in the final rounds.

Phillipsburg found victory against Nemaha Central but didn't muster another win during these rounds of play. Defending state champs, Wichita Collegiate was crowned champions again this year. Phillipsburg finished fifth.
