Long drive earns big rewards for Logan-Palco football
After breaking through the Spartan tackle, junior Case Ashmore heads to the endzone for a 30-yard run and a Trojan score to close out the first quarter. Ashmore put 20 points on the scoreboard for the Trojans during the game.
A 3-hour drive to the southwest, the Logan-Palco Trojans traveled to Deerfield on Friday, Oct. 25. The Spartans received the ball to start the game, but turned the ball over on downs in their first drive. The Trojans wasted no time in their first drive with a big run by junior Case Ashmore, then a long pass to senior Kaden Graham for the 50-yard touchdown play. The Trojans never looked back as they cruised to the 56-6 win.
Senior Mayson Vahling and Ashmore both scored on 2 touchdown passes, with Vahling receiving 3 passes for 57 yards, and Ashmore 2 passes for 57 yards. Graham caught two passes for 65 yards. Quarterback Rhett Kats threw for 196 yards and completed 9 of 15 passes.
Ashmore rushed for 57 yards on 7 carries and a score, and Vahling for 43 yards on 8 carries and a score. Junior Carson Knipp rushed for the other TD. Vahling scored on 4 conversions, followed by Caleb Sparks and Ashmore each with 2.
The Trojan defense all contributed to the cause with Ashmore leading in tackles with 6, followed by Knipp, senior Tye West, and junior Bryson Bollig each with 5. Bollig also caused a Spartan fumble. Sparks recovered a fumble, and Knipp, Ashmore and Kats all intercepted passes.
With the win against Sharon Springs last week, the 7-1 Trojans earned the home field advantage on Thursday, Oct. 31 as they will host Ashland High School in a Halloween match-up. Please note the 5:30 start time.
