Logan FFA Hosts Second Annual Agricultural Safety Day for K-8 Students

The Logan FFA recently hosted its second annual Agricultural Safety Day, welcoming students from kindergarten through 8th grade to a fun and educational event focused on farm safety and awareness.
Throughout the day, students rotated through a variety of engaging stations, each offering hands-on learning experiences. They received important instruction on farm first aid and emergency procedures, and explored the proper way to approach livestock, feed calves, and understand calf anatomy.
Grain safety was a major focus of the day, illustrated through an engaging demonstration using a toy grain cart and a LEGO figure to show just how quickly and easily someone can become trapped in grain. The visual made a lasting impact on students, emphasizing the hidden dangers of grain storage. In addition, students had the opportunity to explore a real semi truck and trailer, reinforcing the importance of being aware of large farm machinery and equipment.
Students also learned how to safely handle chickens, grade eggs, and gained insight into the chicken life cycle.
One particularly popular station involved a hands-on rice processing activity, where students removed the hull from rice and sanded it to produce white rice. Safety around agricultural chemicals was also covered, including a demonstration on the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing substances.
To wrap up the day, each student took home a goody bag prepared by the FFA’s ag entrepreneurship class. Younger students (K–4th grade) received bandages and coloring sheets tied to each session, while older students (5th–8th grade) were given a basic first aid kit.
The event was a great success, providing valuable knowledge in a fun, interactive way, and highlighting the importance of safety in agricultural environments.
