Lady Panthers pick up wins against Russell and Smith Center

The Lady Panthers hosted the Russell Broncos on Jan. 9 for their second face off of the season.

Phillipsburg picked up a 39-28 win after leading in all four quarters.

Sophomore Emalee Russell led the Panthers with 12 points, while junior Ryleigh Seems added 8 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Chloe VanDerVeen contributed 7 points and 8 rebounds.

Phillipsburg shot 26.7% from the field and forced 16 Russell turnovers.

The Panthers had a quick turn arounds as they played the Smith Center Redmen on Jan. 10 at Russell and came out with an exciting 36–34 win.

VanDerVeen led the Panthers with 17 points, while senior Natalie Fischer added 7 points. Seems contributed 6 points and a team-high 10 rebounds as Phillipsburg held on late for the victory.

The win improved Phillipsburg’s record to 5-3, while Smith Center fell to 4-4. The victory over the Redman secured them a 5th place finish at the Amos Morris Tournament.
