Lady Panthers pick up two wins before MCL Tournament action

The Lady Panthers traveled to Trego on January 13, for a tight matchup against the Trego Eagles and came away with a 42–39 win.

Phillipsburg led throughout the game but had to hold off a late push from Trego to secure the victory.

Senior Chloe VanDerVeen led the Panthers with 20 points and seven rebounds, while junior Ryleigh Seems added 12 points and nine rebounds. Senior Natalie Fischer added in six points, and junior Chloe Jacobs finished with three.

Phillipsburg shot 33.3% from the field and made 14 of 20 free throws.

Strong defense helped the Panthers close out the win and improve their record on the season.

The Lady Panthers hosted the Norton Lady Bluejays on January 16 and earned a 46–35 victory.

Phillipsburg led in every quarter and pulled away in the second half to secure the win.

Seems led the Panthers with 11 points and a team-high 11 rebounds, while VanDerVeen also scored 11 points and added six rebounds. Freshman Tessa Ragsdale put up a solid nine points, and sophomore Emalee Russell finished with four points and six rebounds.

Phillipsburg shot 33.3% from the field and limited Norton’s scoring chances.

The Panthers fell short in a MCL Tournament rematch against Trego on Tuesday, Jan. 20. They will be in tournament action again on Thursday, Jan. 22 at Norton against Plainville for the second round of MCL.
