The ASTRONAUT exhibit has been a blast—literally! Visitors of all ages have been enjoying the hands-on, interactive displays that bring space exploration to life. One particularly heartwarming visit came from the Sheridan County Long Term Care in Hoxie, KS. Several residents made the trip to experience the exhibit, accompanied by youth volunteers from the facility’s impressive summer volunteer program.

Started a few years ago by activity directors Kathy Viltoft and Annisa Villegas, this youth program has grown into a well-organized initiative with a daily volunteer schedule. The pairing of elders and adolescents was ideal—residents had the joy of watching the younger generation engage with the exhibit, while the youth lent helping hands by pushing wheelchairs, assisting with navigation, and even playing interactive games alongside them. It was a beautiful moment of multigenerational connection, and a shining example of how the Astronaut exhibit can be experienced in full, by all.

Looking for a fun and creative class? There’s still time to sign up for the Reversible Pendant class with the talented Kristin Johnson. In this one-of-a-kind class, participants will explore pyrography (wood burning) on gourd shards, then bring their designs to life with vibrant alcohol inks. If time allows, Kristin will also guide the class through a bit of macramé to create a unique hanging chain for your pendant. With about eight spots left, this is a great opportunity to learn something new in a relaxed, supportive setting.

Another learning opportunity is right around the corner: Laurie Albin’s Oil Painting Workshop returns in August! This two-day experience is open to all skill levels and includes lessons on fundamental techniques, painting a variety of subjects, and one-on-one guidance. Laurie’s teaching style blends demonstrations with hands-on practice, helping each student grow in skill and confidence. To register, visit: www.hansenmuseum.org/schedule-of-classes.

Quilters, take note! Our Open Call Christmas Quilt Exhibition is accepting entries. We welcome quilts, table runners, and wall hangings from creators of all levels. While professional quilting is allowed, the top layer must be pieced by the submitting quilter. Don’t forget to credit any professional quilters involved! The submission deadline is November 7. For full details, visit www.hansenmuseum.org/christmas-quilt-entries or call 785-689-4846.
