Logan FFA performs well at Quinter outing

Senior team and their 3rd place Homesite Plaque: Left to Right: Haylee Hamilton, Case Ashmore, Gavin Gottschalk, Hannah Brumbaugh, Brennan Loyd-Counter, Taden Gottschalk, Jayla Traxler, and Vivian Burmeister
Sept. 17 was another great day for the Logan FFA chapter. This was our second contest of the year. We traveled to Quinter today and participated in Land judging and homesite judging and the experience proved to be both challenging and rewarding. These contests give students the chance to step outside the classroom and apply their knowledge in real world situations all while working together as a team.
In land judging, members evaluated soil, texture, slope, erosion, and drainage to determine the best use for a piece of land whether for farming, grazing, woodland or recreation. In homesite judging they’ve shifted their focus to community development and housing, considering factors such as septic system placement, drainage needs, and whether the soil could support a strong foundation.
While it might sound like dirt and clipboards, the learning runs much deeper. Our FFA members developed skills in critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving, while also gaining confidence in making decisions. These contests also show students how agriculture science and environment connect to everyday life and even future careers.
Beyond competition, land and home site judging help prepare our FFA members for opportunities in agriculture, environmental science, engineering, and natural resource management. Just as importantly, they teach the value of caring for the land responsibly and an important lesson for today and in the future.
We are incredibly proud of our FFA members for their dedication and hard work through experiences like Land and Home site judging they are not only learning about soils and land use, but also building skills that will serve them for a lifetime.
We had seniors and greenhands participate today.
