Phillipsburg Wrestlers Earn Medals at Christmas City Wrestling Classic

The Phillipsburg boys wrestling team had a strong showing at the Christmas City Wrestling Classic, with several athletes earning top finishes and valuable team points.

At 138 pounds, Brady Russom went 3-1 on the day, placing third and earning 14 team points. After a first-round bye, Russom won his quarterfinal match 10-4 over Chaysston Anderson of Scott Community. He fell in the semifinals but came back strong, pinning Mack Glaze of Trego in 2:39 and defeating Anderson again 2-0 for third place.

At 144 pounds, Alek Miller finished 1-2, scoring 4 team points. Miller picked up a quick pin over Tucker Denning of Sylvan-Lucas Unified in 31 seconds before being eliminated in the consolation rounds.

At 150 pounds, Carter Bogart went 1-2 and added 2 team points for the Panthers. Bogart earned a 4-2 decision win in his opening round before being defeated in later matches.

At 157 pounds, Blake Buresh dominated his bracket, finishing undefeated and capturing the 1st-place title. Buresh earned three pins and ended the championship match with a 16-1 technical fall over Hill City’s Slade Rohr. His efforts earned Phillipsburg 27.5 team points.

At 175 pounds, Jacob Driggs finished fourth with a 2-2 record, scoring 9 team points. Driggs earned both a major decision and a fall on his way to the placing round.

At 190 pounds, Cash Roth went 1-2, picking up 2.5 team points. Roth earned his victory by a 17-2 technical fall in the consolation bracket.

At 215 pounds, Jesse Dettmer also placed fourth, going 2-2 and scoring 13 team points.
