ROLL THE DICE OR CHECK THE FORECAST? EITHER WAY, LABOR DAY IN LOGAN WILL BE A BLAST!

Weather—it’s always a roll of the dice. Sure, technology has made predictions more reliable, and meteorologists will tell you they get it right more often than not. But for those of us who have been caught in the rain without an umbrella (despite the “sunny skies” promise), it’s hard not to take every forecast with a grain of salt.

That said, the outlook for Sunday, August 31st is looking nothing short of spectacular—perfect for a day of celebrating in Logan! This year’s Labor Day Celebration at the Logan Golf Course on Highway 9 has something for everyone. Think car show by day and fireworks by night, with plenty of excitement in between: a sand volleyball tournament for the competitive crowd, inflatable fun for the kids, a nine-hole mini golf course, and live entertainment from The Innocence that will have you dancing into the evening. The day will close with a fireworks show guaranteed to end the holiday weekend with a bang.

And while you’re in town, don’t miss the chance to stop by the Hansen Museum, where the exhibition ASTRONAUT is on view. This hands-on, immersive experience—brought to Logan all the way from Scitech in Perth, Australia, and brokered by Imagine in Atlanta—has been a hit with both kids and adults. Visitors love the opportunity to learn and play side by side. One parent from Norton even said her two elementary-age children enjoyed it more than their recent visit to the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson. Why? The hands-on activities made the difference.

The Hansen Museum has been buzzing with more than just space exploration. Last week, artist Laurie Albin of WaKeeney led a popular oil painting workshop that drew participants from as far away as Salina. Seven painters spent the day learning new techniques, refining their skills, and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow artists. Photos from the workshop, along with announcements of upcoming opportunities, can be found on the Museum’s Facebook page.

As September approaches, the Museum is also preparing for the return of school field trips. Teachers interested in bringing their students to experience the ASTRONAUT exhibit are encouraged to call 785-689-4846 or email director@hansenmuseum.org soon to reserve a spot—dates are limited, and this popular exhibit won’t be here forever.

So, whether you trust the forecast or prefer to gamble with Mother Nature, one thing is certain: Logan’s Labor Day Celebration is not to be missed. With activities for all ages, great food, live music, fireworks, and free admission, it’s the perfect way to wrap up summer.

The Hansen Museum is located at 110 W. Main Street, Logan, Kansas. Hours are Monday–Friday 9–12 & 1–4; Saturday 9–12 & 1–5; Sunday & holidays 1–5. The Museum is handicap accessible, and thanks to the Dane G. Hansen Foundation, admission is always free. For more information, call 785-689-4846. See you in Logan this Labor Day weekend!
