Another successful day of Forensics for PHS
The Phillipsburg forensics team brought home their fourth trophy of the season as they placed second at the Natoma Invitational on Thursday, February 26. The Panthers placed second and medaled 21 events–a new season record for the team. Sylvan-Lucas barely edged out Phillipsburg for the tournament championship, and Western Plains finished in third.
Gold medalists were Lydia Walker in oration and impromptu and Paige Ehm in extemp. Walker also placed third in prose, and Ehm also placed third in POI.
Silver medalists were Kadence Grote in humorous solo, Griffin Hamons in impromptu, and Colton Summitt in oration. Hamons also placed third in extemp, and Grote placed third in oration and fifth in poetry. Summitt and his IDA partner Carter Grote placed fourth in improvised duet acting. In addition, Carter Grote and brother Emerson Grote teamed together to place fourth in duet acting.
Autumn Hueneke placed fourth in POI and fifth in serious solo. Other fifth place finishers were Jesse Dettmer in extemp, Zoe Sharpnack and Ashtyn Josh in IDA, Carter Grote in humorous solo, and Zoe Sharpnack and sister Skyler Sharpnack in duet acting.
Finishing sixth were Emmitt Patterson-Smith in POI and Skyla Russell in serious solo.
“This tournament was a great confidence booster for some of our newer team members. They’re gaining valuable experience that will help them succeed as the season continues, ” Coach Kim Pakkebier said. “I’m proud of the efforts our students are making.”
The PHS forensics team will compete at Northern Valley on February 28th for their next tournament.
