The Hansen Museum had a full and engaging week, highlighted by creative classes, featured artists, and a captivating exhibition. Our Magic of Painting classes, led by the talented instructor Hope Blakely, brought both challenge and joy to participants over the weekend. Saturday’s class embraced the spirit of the Christmas season as artists worked on a charming and intricate painting of Santa blowing bubbles. While the piece proved to be a bit challenging, the classroom was filled with holiday cheer, and the experience reflected the joy and hope that Christmas so often brings. On Sunday, the mood shifted to a more relaxed and playful atmosphere as participants painted a delightful and happy little cow. With a less technical approach, the class enjoyed a fun and easygoing day of creativity. If you weren’t able to join us this time, don’t worry—Hope will be returning in July for another weekend of classes. Be sure to stay tuned for details on what inspiring painting she’ll bring next.

In addition to the artistic energy in our classrooms, the Museum has been filled with the lovely scents of our April Artist of the Month, Amy Stockman. Amy creates beautifully crafted luxury candles and melts using a premium coconut and soy wax blend. Each piece is carefully hand-poured, resulting in clean-burning candles that combine elegance with exceptional fragrance. Her work blends high-quality ingredients with thoughtful design, offering everything from subtle, soothing scents to rich, distinctive aromas. Amy’s collection brings a warm and inviting atmosphere to any space, and we invite you to stop by the Hansen Museum this month to experience her artistry firsthand.

We also encourage everyone to explore our current exhibition, SPECTACLE, toured by the National Geographic Society. This extraordinary collection of photography takes viewers on a visual journey from the Plains of Kansas to the breathtaking Dolomites in Italy. Among the many striking images are Jim Reed’s photograph capturing the translucent vortex of a tornado in Greeley County, Kansas, and Sebastia Wahlhuetter’s stunning image of “slackers” resting in hammocks suspended high between mountain peaks in the Dolomites. To reach their resting place, these daring individuals had to walk a wire stretched between the mountains—an incredible feat! Both photographers took significant risks to capture their images—Jim Reed chasing a powerful tornado across the Kansas plains, and Sebastia Wahlhuetter venturing to dizzying heights in the Dolomites to photograph slackers suspended between mountain peaks. These images offer just a glimpse of the awe-inspiring experiences that await you in this exhibition.
