SPECTACLE Opens at the Hansen Museum March 6th
The Hansen Museum is excited to announce the opening of SPECTACLE: an exhibit by National Geographic on March 6th, with the exhibition on view through June 14. This remarkable collection of photography invites visitors to experience a world of wonder through stunning imagery captured by some of the most accomplished photographers working today.
SPECTACLE brings together more than 60 striking photographs that capture extraordinary moments from across the globe. Drawn from National Geographic’s vast archives, these images reveal breathtaking natural phenomena and intimate human experiences alike — from awe-inspiring landscapes and dramatic atmospheric phenomena to scenes of vibrant city life and extraordinary cultural moments.
The exhibition is organized around four engaging themes: Chaos, Surprise, Beauty, and Awe. This structure helps guide visitors on a visual journey that highlights the planet’s diversity and complexity. It offers a fresh perspective on our world and prompts thoughtful reflection on both its wonders and fragility.
Inspired by the National Geographic book Spectacle: Rare and Astonishing Photographs, the exhibition underscores both the power of visual storytelling and the importance of protecting the natural and cultural heritage that makes our planet unique. Each image invites us to look deeper and rediscover the extraordinary in the everyday
The National Geographic Society — the nonprofit organization behind the Spectacle exhibition — has been a champion of exploration, science, education, and storytelling since its founding in 1888. Through its global initiatives, grants, and publications, the Society continues to deepen our understanding of the world and inspire people of all ages to care for it.
In addition to this captivating exhibit, the Hansen Museum is offering creative opportunities for hands-on learning this month. On March 7th, join us for a Fabric Wrapped Baskets class, where participants will create a unique, decorative basket using colorful fabric strips.
Later in the month, on March 21st, we’ll host a Needle Felting class. This class introduces the basics of needle felting — a fiber art that transforms wool roving into sculptural shapes using special barbed needles. Participants will learn foundational techniques and leave with their own felted creations. Learn more at www.hansenmuseum.org.
