The Hansen Museum gallery is buzzing with creativity right now, filled wall to wall with artwork from the 49th Annual High School Art Show. Each year, this exhibit reminds us just how much talent and imagination exists in our area schools, and this year’s show is no exception.

One of the most fun parts of this exhibit is the wide range of materials and techniques students are exploring. You’ll see everything from traditional drawings and paintings to mixed media, pottery, and ceramics. Some students are even experimenting with a trending technique that uses drywall mud to build texture and add a three-dimensional quality to their paintings. There are three great examples of this approach in the gallery, and they really stand out for their depth and creativity.

Phillipsburg’s art department has also introduced something new this year—graphic design. Students have created designs intended for t-shirts, adding a modern and practical twist to the show. Alongside these works are some truly impressive printmaking pieces, created using a variety of printing methods and tools. The results are bold, detailed, and exciting to look at.

The ceramic work in the show is especially eye-catching. Clay, pottery, and ceramic pieces feature a range of firing techniques that create beautiful finishes, from smooth and glossy to earthy and textured. These works reflect not only creativity, but also patience, skill, and a strong understanding of the artistic process.

Be sure to also spend some time in the Artist of the Month space, which features fiber artist Connie Albin of Quinter, Kansas. Her display includes both practical and beautiful handmade items, from colorful dish scrubbies to intricately embroidered tea towels. Her work adds warmth and charm to the gallery and is a wonderful complement to the student artwork on display.

We invite everyone to stop by and enjoy this wonderful display of local and student art. The Hansen Museum is located at 110 W. Main Street in Logan, Kansas.
