Museum News (September 29, 2025)

The Hansen Museum bids a fond farewell to the Astronaut exhibit, which has been a phenomenal success. During its run, more than 50 different classes—totaling around 663 individual students—visited, alongside many other guests. It has truly been an “out-of-this-world” experience for our area.
To accommodate the deinstallation and loading out of the exhibit, the Museum will be closed September 30 through October 3, 2025. We will reopen on October 4, 2025, resuming normal hours. Our next exhibition, From Miniature to Monuments: The Artwork of Sondra Jonson, will open on October 10, 2025.
Sondra Jonson’s journey as an artist blends classical training with a contemporary vision. A graduate with honors from Bryn Mawr College, she refined her skills in sculpting the human figure at the prestigious Frudakis Academy of Art in Philadelphia. Drawing on both her academic foundation in classical art and her intensive studio training, Jonson has built a distinguished career in classical-contemporary sculpture. Over the years, she has created more than one hundred large-scale works across the United States, with pieces also placed in Canada, Europe, Eastern Europe, and Africa. Her artistry spans bronze, resin, mosaic glass, and paint—each work bearing her hallmark of timeless beauty and technical mastery.
This exhibition traces Jonson’s evolution from her earliest works as a student to her most recent projects. Visitors will experience a wide range of her creations and gain insight into the artistic process through a special step-by-step display illustrating how monumental sculptures come to life. Today, Jonson continues her work in her bustling studio in Cambridge, Nebraska, producing sculptures that inspire reflection, reverence, and wonder.
The Hansen Museum is also pleased to remind the public of upcoming opportunities for learning and fun. Country Line Dance will be held on Sunday afternoons in October, Magic of Painting classes will take place October 18 and 19, and a Quilt Class will run from October 7 through November 18 on Tuesday evenings. There is room in all classes, and we encourage participants to register, learn, and grow their skills.
