Museum News (September 8, 2025)
Straight after Labor Day, the Museum shifts into full field trip mode! We currently have more than 325 students scheduled to take on the ASTRONAUT challenge, and we couldn’t be more excited. This is always one of the busiest—and most fun—times of the year for us. If your school hasn’t yet scheduled a tour, don’t wait—dates are filling fast!
The ASTRONAUT exhibit continues to be a crowd favorite among visitors of all ages. This hands-on, full-body science experience takes participants deep into the world of space exploration. Guests learn the value of teamwork while tackling challenges like communicating with mission control, repairing spacecraft damage, and landing a capsule safely. It’s an exciting mix of science and problem-solving you won’t want to miss! The exhibition is open through September 28th—mark your calendars and make plans to visit before it’s gone.
With the cooler mornings rolling in, it’s clear that fall is on its way—and with it comes our fall class schedule. We’re thrilled to welcome back some favorite instructors and to introduce exciting new offerings. On September 17th, Anna Schremmer will teach water bath canning peaches, and on September 20th, fiber artist Marsha Jensen will lead another wonderful basket weaving class. Both classes still have space available. Register online at www.hansenmuseum.org or by mailing your registration and payment directly to the Museum.
This fall we’re adding something brand new: Country Line Dancing with April Teves! If you know April, you know she brings energy and joy to the dance floor. She’ll lead four Sunday afternoon sessions (2:00–3:30 PM), teaching favorites like Slappin’ Leather, Cowboy ChaCha, 10 Step, Reggae Cowboy, and more. It’s sure to be a lively and fun experience. Check our website or Facebook page for details.
Two of our most popular classes are also back this fall. Quilt Class with Janie Lowry will be held Tuesday evenings from 6:30–9:30 PM. This class is open to quilters of all skill levels, and Janie will guide participants through piecing the quilt top of their choice, with the option of using this year’s featured pattern: the Friendship Quilt. The Magic of Painting with Hope Blakely also returns the weekend of October 18–19. Certified Bob Ross instructor Hope Blakely will guide participants through unique works in the Joy of Painting format. Saturday’s project is Tropical Paradise, a vibrant sunset beach scene, while Sunday’s is English Village, featuring charming stone cottages along a cobblestone street. This October, Hope is also introducing a special Friday and Saturday evening class: Eye of the Tiger. Though it uses a slightly different technique than the Bob Ross method, the class still provides step-by-step instruction and all supplies are included. More details for both quilting and painting classes will be arriving soon—Museum members, watch your mailboxes!
