The Hansen Museum continues to buzz with creativity and community spirit, offering an exciting lineup of classes, exhibitions, and cultural events that keep the arts thriving in northwest Kansas. Recent activities brought together makers and art enthusiasts for a joyful, hands-on experience that was as inspiring as it was fun.

On Saturday, March 7th, the Museum hosted a lively Fabric-Wrapped Rope Basket Class led by the talented Monica Sellens. The classroom was filled with laughter, color, and creativity as participants turned simple materials—scrap fabric, cotton rope, glue, and a zigzag stitch—into charming and practical baskets.

Monica’s upbeat and engaging teaching style made the workshop especially memorable. With clear step-by-step instruction, encouragement, and plenty of creative tips, she helped participants feel confident throughout the process. By the end of the class, everyone left with a beautiful, handmade basket that reflected their own personal style.

“Monica went above and beyond,” one participant shared. “She made the class easy to follow and generously provided fun notions that helped make every basket unique.”

The Museum extends its sincere thanks to Monica Sellens for sharing her talents, and to all the wonderful participants who brought their enthusiasm and creativity to the day. Events like this are at the heart of the Hansen Museum’s mission—to foster artistic expression and build community through shared creative experiences.

March also ushered in a new Artist of the Month. The Museum is proud to feature Logan Laser and Printing, a unique student-run business from Logan High School guided by instructor Janet Gottstine. On display and available for purchase is a wide variety of items created by these talented students. Visitors will find embroidered tea towels made with the program’s ten-needle embroidery machine, screen-printed T-shirts and sweatshirts, eye-catching metal and wooden signs for doors and walls, bookmarks, and much more. While the display includes many Trojan-themed items, it also offers plenty of designs that appeal to everyone. Stop by to admire the students’ craftsmanship and perhaps pick up a special gift for yourself or someone else.

The Museum also welcomed the opening of its newest exhibit at the beginning of the month. SPECTACLE features a stunning collection of photographs from world-renowned photographers that truly live up to the exhibition’s name—spectacular, dramatic, eye-catching, and unforgettable. Through a dazzling variety of images, the exhibit captures both the beauty of the natural world and the ingenuity of human creativity in moments that surprise, intrigue, and inspire.
