Lady Panthers go 1-1 in league tournament play
The Lady Panthers faced the Trego Eagles in the first round of MCL on Tuesday, Jan. 20 and fell 38-27 in a home game.
Phillipsburg kept things close early, but Trego was able to pull away as the game went on and held the Panthers scoreless for long stretches.
Junior Ryleigh Seems led the team with eight points and six rebounds, while senior Chloe VanDerVeen added seven points. Senior Natalie Fischer chipped in six points as the Panthers worked to stay within reach.
Phillipsburg struggled to get shots to fall, which made it hard to keep up with the Eagles.
The Lady Panthers then traveled to Norton on Thursday, Jan. 22 to face the Plainville Cardinals in the second round. The Panthers picked up a 53-50 in an exciting game that went down to the final moments.
Fischer led the Panthers with a double double, scoring 16 points and pulling down 15 rebounds. VanDerVeen added 13 points, while freshman Bella Stites chipped in seven.
