On September 9, the Logan FFA senior and greenhand Dairy Cattle Judging teams traveled to Colby to compete in their first contest of the school year.
During the contest, students evaluated four classes of dairy cows and two classes of heifers. In addition to placing the classes, students demonstrated their knowledge and communication skills by presenting oral reasons to explain and defend their placings. Senior members presented two sets of oral reasons, while Greenhand members presented one set.
The contest was a great start to the year for Logan FFA, with both teams turning in strong performances.
The greenhand team placed 7th out of 17 teams. Individually, Logan FFA members placed as follows among 108 greenhand competitors:
Kinley – 12th
Graysen – 24th
Henry – 30th
Grunnar – 33rd
Tucker – 38th
Payson – 39th
Annslee – 58th
Tobin – 82nd
The Senior team earned an impressive 4th-place finish out of 18 teams. Individually, Logan FFA members placed as follows among 102 senior competitors:
Graci – 12th
Hunter – 17th
Brecken – 22nd
Buster – 45th
Weston – 59th
The Dairy Cattle Judging Contest challenges students to evaluate dairy animals based on characteristics such as udder quality, dairy strength, feet and legs, and overall conformation. Students must then use critical-thinking and public-speaking skills to explain their decisions through oral reasons.
Logan FFA is proud of both teams for their hard work and strong start to the contest season. With this being the first competition of the year, these students represented Logan FFA very well and gained valuable experience that will help them throughout the year.
