Northern Valley Returns to the Cross Country Scene
For the first time in 5 years, the Huskies have Cross Country. We have five runners representing the team (the last time NV had 5+ runners was 2013). Our first meet at Alma, NE included the following teams; Alma, Arapahoe, Southern Valley, Axtell, Elm Creek, Wilcox-Hildreth, Medicine Valley, Overton, and Southwest.
On the girls side, Tayah Seeders (Fr.) finished in 15th place running 35:33.23, and Shelby Lentz (Fr.) finished 18th running 37.32.33. Tayah earned a medal, and also sets a school record as no girl at Northern Valley has ever run the 5000-meter race as KSHSAA implemented this distance for girls in 2015. There were 22 total girl runners.
On the boys side, Zane Brown (Jr.) ran the fastest with a 23:45.56 placing 24th. Levi Black (So.) finished 38th running 31:09.47. Jeremiah Kirkland (So.) finished 42nd running a 34:11.40. There were 42 total boy runners. 3 runners was enough for a team at the Alma Meet, as the boys finished 6th as a team. What started as an overcast day turned into 90 degrees and muggy, with nats covering the runners faces as they crossed the finish line. Each NV runner’s pace started too fast as they ran an amazing first 1600m, but couldn’t keep that pace throughout. The next meets for the Huskies are at the Prairie Dog Golf Course in Norton on September 24, and the Clyde T. McCraken Invite in Ness City on October 1
