Panthers compete in three tennis meets

The Phillipsburg girls tennis team competed in three meets on Sept. 17 and 19.

The varsity team competed at Ellsworth while the JV team competed at Trego twice.

The JV team finished second at Trego on Sept. 17 with seven points. Trego finished first with 12 points. Alivia Hopson won first place in singles. She went 4-0, beating Libbie Carlin of Osborne and Ella Woodyard of Norton 6-0, Brooklin Geist of Trego 6-1 and Emma Ashmore of Trego 6-3. Skyler Sharpnack and Savannah Bretton finished fourth in doubles. They won two matches against Hempler and Burton of Norton 6-1 and teammates Julia Walker and Brianna Bui 6-2. Walker and Bui finished fifth. They also defeated Hempler and Burton 6-2.

The varsity team finished seventh at the Ellsworth Invitational with 29 points. Valorie Solida finished third in #1 singles. She beat Mikaela Miller of Sterling 8-1 and Josie Baer of Chapman 8-2. She lost to Karli Haase of Ellsworth 0-8. Miley Moffatt finished fifth in #2 singles. She lost her first match before winning her next two against Leityn Bolinder of Wabaunsee and Angie Griffis of Chapman. Azariah Christy and Lydia Walker finished sixth in #1 doubles. Kinley Krafft and Emmalynn Brown finished seventh in #2 doubles.

The JV team competed at Trego again on Sept. 19. Sharpnack and Kinsey Archer finished second in #1 doubles. They beat Straub and Prochaca of Colby 6-2 and Huser and Haselhorst 6-3.

Julia Walker and Brianna Bui finished fourth in #2 doubles. They beat Heinze and Hudson of Ellsworth 6-4 and Wolf and Fikan of Colby 6-5.
