Phillipsburg volleyball picked up a win on Thursday, Sept. 17, defeating Alma 3-0. The Panthers won the sets 25-12, 25-21 and 26-24, with the third set being a close finish.
“I’m proud of our team; we finished hard and played tough,” senior Brooke Hanchett said.
Hanchett led Phillipsburg with 32 digs, while junior Ana Schemper added 19 assists, 11 digs and seven kills. The win moved the Panthers to 11-3 on the season and extended their winning streak to four games.
Phillipsburg suffered its first home loss of the season Tuesday, Sept. 22, falling to Smith Center 3-0. The Panthers kept the match competitive, scoring at least 17 points in each set. The final scores were 25-17, 25-19, and 25-18.
Senior Kamrie Chestnut said the team plans to use the loss as motivation moving forward. “We know what we need to work on, and we’re going to keep pushing and get better from this,” Chestnut said.
The loss brought Phillipsburg’s record to 11-4 overall and 6-1 in league play. The Panthers will look to bounce back Thursday, Sept. 24 when they face Hays and Chapman in Hays at 5 p.m.
