The Phillipsburg boys wrestling team had a busy weekend as they competed in their home tournament, Panther Classic. Both the varsity and JV teams worked hard and brought home several medals.
For the varsity team, Blake Buresh led the way with another strong performance. He went undefeated at 157 pounds, taking 1st place and improving his season record to 38-0. Buresh won all of his matches by fall, tech fall, or major decision, continuing his great season.

Brady Russom earned a 4th place finish at 138 pounds, picking up several wins along the way.
Alek Miller, Carter Bogart, and Jesse Dettmer each added team points with solid efforts in their brackets.
On the JV side, the Panthers had several wrestlers place high. Colton Summitt took 1st place at 150 pounds, winning all of his matches and Griffin Hamons also earned 1st at 215 pounds after a strong day on the mat.
Emerson Grote placed 2nd at 113, while Chasen Shields and Chaz Roth both took 3rd place in their divisions. Miles Krom finished 4th at 120, and Jordan Dexter placed 5th at 126.
The tournament gave the Panthers a good chance to compete in front of their home crowd and show how much progress they’ve made this season.
The team will take the mat for regionals Feb. 21 in Norton to punch a ticket to state.
