The Hansen Museum is off to a fantastic start with our newest exhibition, Going Places: The Technology of Transport! During opening week, visitors of all ages have been exploring the many hands-on exhibits and discovering the science, engineering, and problem-solving behind how people and goods travel from point A to point B.

Several exhibits have quickly become visitor favorites. Rock the Boat challenges participants to load a cargo ship with a variety of containers. It sounds easy—until you realize just how much planning and strategy it takes to keep a ship balanced while maximizing its cargo!

Another crowd-pleaser is the Recumbent Racer, where friends and family can challenge each other to see whether a recumbent bicycle or a traditional racing bike performs better going uphill and downhill. The friendly competition has brought plenty of laughter as visitors test their predictions.

If you're looking for a fast-paced challenge, don't miss Virtual Train Controller. Players compete by controlling track intersections as red and blue trains race to pick up and deliver passengers. The more passengers you deliver, the faster your train travels, making quick reflexes the key to victory. It has become one of the most popular exhibits in the gallery.

If you haven't had a chance to experience Going Places, we invite you to stop by and see what all the excitement is about. Whether you're five or ninety-five, there's something to discover, explore, and enjoy.

There is still time to register for two of our popular summer youth and adult programs. Magic of Painting with certified Bob Ross instructor Hope Blakely will be held July 11 and 12, with participants painting Northwest Majesty on Saturday and Daisy Basket on Sunday. We also have openings available in Art Camp, where young artists will enjoy three fun-filled days exploring a variety of art mediums while stretching their creativity and artistic skills. Registration for both programs is available by calling the Museum or online at www.hansenmuseum.org under the Classes & Camps tab.

While summer programs are in full swing, we're also hard at work preparing for the 51st Annual Hansen Museum Arts & Crafts Fair on Saturday, August 15th. From recruiting talented artisans and coordinating entertainment to organizing the 10th Annual 5K Run & 2 Mile Fun Walk, there's a great deal happening behind the scenes to make this year's fair another wonderful community celebration. We hope you'll mark your calendars now and plan to join us.

Be sure to stop by and meet our July Artist of the Month, Sommer Yocum of Prairie View and her inspiring business, Jesus & Jelly. Sommer creates delicious, handcrafted sand plum and chokecherry jellies using fruit she harvests herself. Every jar includes an uplifting Bible verse and is lovingly picked, prepared, poured, and prayed over. Her story of faith, perseverance, and family tradition is just as inspiring as her homemade jellies are delicious.
