Last week marked the end of the school year, and we were delighted to welcome multiple classes from Logan Junior and Senior High School to enjoy our current exhibition, SPECTACLE, traveling from the National Geographic Society.

The students spent time exploring the remarkable photographs throughout the exhibit, and it was fascinating to hear their thoughts and discover which images were their favorites. Their choices were as varied as their ages and personalities. Some were drawn to wildlife, others to dramatic landscapes, but every student found photographs that captured their imagination and curiosity.

We have also enjoyed visits from many younger children and their families. One image that never fails to catch the attention of our youngest guests is Paolo Woods’ photograph of Michelangelo’s famous sculpture, David. Sharp little eyes quickly notice that David is, in fact, without clothing — a realization that seems absolutely mind-boggling to them.

That discovery has sparked some thoughtful and amusing conversations about the human form, art, and history. We’ve tried not to add too much confusion to the discussion, but one especially bright young girl, clearly well-versed in her Bible stories, asked perhaps the best question of all:

“Was David naked when he killed Goliath?”

Moments like these remind us why museums are such wonderful places for curiosity, learning, and unexpected conversations.

This month’s featured Artist of the Month is Mary Beth Rose. Her delightful fiber art display includes handcrafted greeting cards, whimsical trinket books, and beautiful Northern Lights shadow boxes softly illuminated with tiny fairy lights. Her greeting cards, in particular, have been selling especially well and have become a favorite among visitors. Each piece reflects her creativity, attention to detail, and love of artistic storytelling. Guests are invited to stop in and enjoy her imaginative collection while visiting the Museum.

As summer begins, the Hansen Museum continues to offer visitors a variety of inspiring experiences through exhibitions, local artists, and engaging programs for all ages. There is still time to explore SPECTACLE, the extraordinary National Geographic exhibition that has sparked curiosity and conversation among visitors young and old alike, before it closes on June 14, 2026.
