The Hansen Museum is currently in a two-week transition period as staff members work to deinstall SPECTACLE, the popular National Geographic photography exhibition, and prepare for the arrival of our next major traveling exhibition. While visitors may not see the behind-the-scenes activity, there is a tremendous amount of work taking place. Because Going Places will occupy not only the Museum's main gallery but also the Community Room, exhibits and furnishings must be carefully relocated throughout the building. In addition, many items currently stored in our storage areas must be moved to accommodate the large crates, trolleys, and support equipment that travel with the exhibition. It is a major undertaking with many moving parts, requiring careful planning, coordination, and a great deal of physical work to transform the Museum for this exciting new experience.

As a reminder, the Hansen Museum will be closed to the public June 22 through June 26 while staff and technicians install Going Places, an exciting interactive science exhibition created by Scitech in Perth, Australia, and produced by Imagine. Opening June 29 and remaining on view through November 1, Going Places explores the fascinating technology humans have developed for travel and transportation. Visitors will have opportunities to fly a plane, race a recumbent bicycle, ride a hovercraft, and discover how transportation innovations have shaped our world. We are excited to bring another immersive, hands-on experience to the Museum and look forward to welcoming visitors when the exhibition officially opens.

Before Going Places arrives, there is still time to enjoy a wonderful artistic opportunity at the Museum. Sandy Seamone will lead a beginner-friendly Mixed Media Painting Class on June 20 and 21. Designed for aspiring artists looking to explore their creativity while learning new techniques in a supportive environment, these classes are always filled with fun, encouragement, and artistic growth. Participants will paint Timber Wolf on Saturday and Wing Man on Sunday. Photos of both projects can be viewed on the Hansen Museum website and Facebook page. Space is still available, so interested individuals are encouraged to register online or contact the Museum at 785-689-4846.

Looking ahead to July, another painting opportunity awaits. Hope Blakely will return to the Logan Youth Center on July 11 and 12 to teach her popular Magic of Painting class. Hope's workshops are known for their relaxed atmosphere and step-by-step instruction that helps artists of all skill levels create beautiful works of art. Whether you are picking up a paintbrush for the first time or are an experienced painter looking to sharpen your skills, Hope's classes provide a welcoming environment where creativity can flourish. Participants consistently leave with not only a completed painting but also increased confidence in their artistic abilities.

Although the Museum will be changing over the next two weeks, there is certainly no shortage of activity. From painting classes and summer camps to the installation of Going Places, the Hansen Museum is preparing for an exciting summer season. We encourage everyone to mark their calendars, register for upcoming programs, and join us as we embark on the next leg of our journey. We look forward to seeing YOU at the Museum soon!
