Happy little painters and happy little trees! Paula Desbien and Annie Webb of Damar couldn't resist posing with Bob Ross after completing their Northwest Majesty paintings during Saturday's Magic of Painting class at the Hansen Museum.

It was another busy and exciting week at the Hansen Museum!

This past weekend, we welcomed 25 talented painters for our Magic of Painting classes taught by certified Bob Ross instructor Hope Blakely. We had 13 participants on Saturday and 12 on Sunday, with everyone leaving not only with a beautiful painting but also with new skills and a renewed appreciation for the joy of creating art.

Saturday's class painted the scenic mountain landscape, Northwest Majesty, while Sunday's class ventured just a bit outside the traditional Bob Ross style. Daisy Basket incorporated an abstract background technique that was a fun change of pace for many of the painters. Ironically, although the background featured the more abstract approach, most participants agreed that the basket itself proved to be the most challenging part of the painting because it required a more representational style. It was wonderful to see everyone encouraging one another and celebrating each other's accomplishments throughout the weekend.

Our new exhibition, Going Places: The Technology of Transport, continues to be a tremendous success. Last Friday afternoon alone, we welcomed 35 visitors, and guests of all ages are enjoying the exhibition's many interactive experiences. Even more exciting, many visitors are returning to experience their favorite activities again and to challenge family and friends to beat their scores. It's always rewarding to see an exhibition that brings generations together while making learning so much fun.

Planning is also well underway for the 51st Annual Hansen Museum Arts & Crafts Fair on Saturday, August 15th. Craft vendors continue to register, and there is still booth space available for anyone interested in participating. If you or someone you know would like to become a vendor, registration forms are available online at www.hansenmuseum.org or by calling the Museum.

Registration forms have also been mailed for our 10th Annual 5K Run & 2 Mile Fun Walk, which kicks off the Arts & Crafts Fair festivities on the morning of August 15th. As always, all proceeds from the race will be given to Phillips County Hospice Services. The top male and female winners in each age division will receive Hansen Bucks, which can be spent just like cash with vendors at the Arts & Crafts Fair. It's a fun way to start the day while supporting a wonderful local organization.

As August draws closer, we'll be sharing more details about the Arts & Crafts Fair, including entertainment, demonstrations, food vendors, family activities, and much more. We hope you'll make plans now to spend the day with us in Logan for one of northwest Kansas' favorite summer traditions.
