Last week we shared some of the highlights from the 48th Annual Hansen Museum Labor Day Celebration, and this week we would like to recognize the winners from several of the day’s competitions. We appreciate everyone who participated and helped make the day such a success.
The Dane G. Bales Jr. Memorial Car Show, which has been a part of the Hansen Museum Labor Day Celebration since 1998, once again brought an impressive variety of vehicles to the Logan Golf Course. The Top 10 People’s Choice winners were Tim & Aleta Keller, 1949 Chevy Pickup; Rhonda Bachman, 1962 Ford Thunderbird; Jack Haddock, 1969 Plymouth Road Runner; Walter Pedersen, 1952 Chevy 3100 Pickup; Dennis DeWitt, 1987 Chevrolet Pickup; Linda Artz, 1955 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria; Ryan Lewis, 2005 Harley-Davidson Road Glide; Raymond & Carol Wakefield, 1931 Ford Model A; Larry Nelson, 1961 Chevrolet Corvette; and David & Tiffany Schneider, 1977 Ford Hi-Boy Pickup.
Entrants’ Choice honors went to Walter Pedersen, 1952 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup, first; Tim & Aleta Keller, 1949 Chevy Pickup, second; and Rhonda Bachman, 1962 Ford Thunderbird, third. Carol’s Choice winners were Jack Haddock, 1969 Plymouth Road Runner, first; Gary Becker, 1981 Chevy Camaro, second; and David & Tiffany Schneider, 1977 Ford Hi-Boy Pickup, third.
Todd Richardson of Spring Hill, Kansas, received the Long Distance Award, traveling 301 miles to participate. The D’s Traveling Trophy was presented to JR Haselhorst with his 1956 Plymouth Fury, and Todd Richardson’s 1979 Pontiac Trans Am was selected as the 2027 Feature Car. Congratulations to all of our car show winners, and thank you to everyone who brought a vehicle to share with us!
The Sand Volleyball Tournament also provided plenty of competition throughout the day. Taking first place was Loco Gringos, with team members Gracie Rains, Dylan Van Laeys, Kylor Hogan, Alyssya Herter, Josh Uhland, Garret Toon, and Taylor Elison. Ballz-N-Dollz earned second place with Beth Schemper, Ricky Dusin, Ashley Christy, Kyra Reese, Bryant Reese, and Jim Riener. Finishing in third place was Need A Name, with Jim Ashmore, Miranda Ashmore, Case Ashmore, Tate Balthazor, Aubrey Birney, Adam States, and Desiree Harmon. Congratulations to all three teams!
This year’s Labor Day Celebration also featured a brand-new event—the Logan Fire Department’s Cornhole Tournament. Congratulations to Dylan Van Laeys and Grady Hammer, who took home the top honors! The tournament was great fun and, even better, provided an opportunity to support the Logan Fire Department and the important service it provides for the area. We hope this first tournament is just the beginning and that cornhole will become a staple of the Labor Day Celebration.
With another Labor Day Celebration in the books, things were a little quieter this past week—but there was still plenty of creativity happening at the Hansen Museum. On Saturday, September 12th, instructor Marsha Jensen joined us for a day of basket weaving. Ten participants spent the class creating their own Gretchen Roll Baskets, learning the techniques needed to shape and weave their baskets from start to finish. There was plenty of weaving, visiting, and laughter along the way—and, as anyone who has taken a basket class knows, plenty of clothespins! We appreciate Marsha sharing her time, talent, and knowledge with us and thank everyone who joined us for another enjoyable class.
September also brings a new Artist of the Month to the Hansen Museum. We are pleased to feature Jalia Creighton, the artist and creator behind Pick Me Up Manis, a press-on nail business based in Stockton, Kansas. Jalia specializes in hand-painted press-on nails, transforming each tiny nail into a miniature canvas. Her work showcases the precision, creativity, and artistic skill involved in creating detailed designs on such a small scale. We invite you to stop by the Museum this month to take a closer look at Jalia’s work and see how nail art can become a unique form of wearable art.
There is always something happening at the Hansen Museum, and we hope you will stop in soon.
