There has been plenty of learning and creativity happening at the Hansen Museum, and last week was no exception! Our Bowl Koozie Sewing Class was a great learning experience as instructor Anna Schremmer expertly guided each participant through the process of making their own bowl koozie.
Anna did a wonderful job of walking everyone through the project step by step, and participants left with much more than the koozie they completed in class. Each person received a kit containing enough materials to make three additional koozies at home, giving them everything they need to create a complete set of four. They also took home a cutting mat and quilting ruler to use for future sewing projects. All of that, along with the instruction and supplies, made the class a pretty great deal for the $30 registration fee! The Museum does have a few additional koozie kits available. If you missed the class but would be interested in purchasing a kit, contact the Museum office for more information.
Next up, we are gearing up for Janie Lowry’s Fall Table Runner Sewing Class on Saturday, September 26th, and there is still room to join us. Janie is an experienced quilter who has plenty of knowledge to share, making this a wonderful opportunity for participants to learn new techniques and grow their skills as sewists and quilters. Whether you have been sewing for years or are still building your confidence, Janie will guide you through creating a beautiful, quilted fall table runner that will be perfect for the season. If sewing isn’t quite your thing, perhaps dancing is! Country Line Dance with April Teves is another fun opportunity coming up at the Museum. Set aside your Sundays in October and get ready to kick up your heels. With both beginner and intermediate sections, there is an option for those just learning the steps as well as dancers ready to build on their skills. April always makes learning fun, so grab your dancing shoes and come join us! Details and registration information can be found on the Museum’s website or by calling the Museum office.
We also hope you will take a little time during your next visit to see the work of our Artist of the Month, Jalia Creighton, the talented artist and creator behind Pick Me Up Manis. Jalia uses press-on nails as her tiny canvases, creating intricate, hand-painted designs one nail at a time. Attention to detail must be Jalia’s middle name! From preparing each nail to carefully painting the design and applying the finishing touches, her work is meticulous. It takes a steady hand, an artistic eye, and plenty of patience—and Jalia certainly has all three. Be sure to stop and take a close look at her display; the small scale of her work makes the detail all the more impressive.
And while you are at the Museum, don’t forget that time is running out to experience Going Places: The Technology of Transport. This fun, interactive exhibition invites visitors of all ages to explore the science and technology behind the ways we travel. Going Places closes November 1, so if you haven’t visited yet—or if you’re ready to come back for another trip through the exhibition—make plans to see it before it goes!
